100 Pieces Project #3

$145.00

Caught in the Machinery

This assemblage sets an anatomical illustration of a head and brain inside a square tin, like a specimen kept in a case. The brass handle on top makes the whole thing something to be carried, packed, and managed.

Fine black lines run from the brain and cranial nerves out to a cluster of salvaged parts: watch movements, interlocking gears, springs, looped wire, a gold medallion, and clear plastic fan blades. Each line links the mind to mechanism. Together they show how the stress, depression, and constant mental gymnastics of chronic illness pull at you when you are stuck in a system that keeps turning whether or not you can keep up.

Details:

Method: Assemblage

Quality: Precise

Mood: Worldly

Materials: Mixed media with found objects, including vintage tin, watch parts, gears, wire, and plastic components

Both clinical and deeply human, this piece invites viewers to consider the mental and emotional cost of navigating healthcare, and the person behind every chart and appointment.
