100 Pieces Project #31
Abundance
Mixed media with found objects
This piece is a celebration. A compartmented box is divided into three sections, each telling a different part of the story of a life, and the whole thing is edged with a border of small pieces painted in gold, turquoise, and magenta.
In the upper right, an overflowing cluster of metal flowers, leaves, roses, and honeycomb shapes spills past the edges of its compartment. Gold, bronze, silver, and rust-red tones crowd together in layers. This is the abundance of our lives, full and a little unruly. Below it, a bright turquoise section holds a clear, curved piece of mica over a nest of small gears and cogs, alongside round, jewel-toned discs swirled with purple, pink, and gold. These are the mechanics of the body, the hidden workings that let us experience everything else.
On the left, the largest section is a quiet field of gold. Its surface is thick and swirled, pressed with rippling marks like a fingerprint or a pool after a stone has been dropped. Its simplicity is the counterpoint to the busy sections beside it, and it is a pattern that can only be made once.
Details:
Method: Found objects
Quality: Complex
Mood: Empathetic
Materials: Mixed media with found objects, including metal flowers and leaves, gears, clear plastic, and textured gold paint
Rich, layered, and warm, this piece invites viewers to appreciate the abundance, the machinery, and the singular patterns that make up a life.
