Fingerprints Series: A Life in Layers
This piece is part of my Fingerprints series, where each artwork represents a life, uniquely woven from countless experiences. Built on an antique Styrofoam head, it is covered from crown to base in small, hand-cut strips of paper, layered into a rich, textured surface.
Reds, oranges, and golds sit beside deep purples, greens, teals, and black. Some papers are smooth, others flecked with fine white fibers or printed with gold patterns, so the surface shifts from bold to soft as you move around it.
Life is not simply good or bad, black or white. It is a vibrant tapestry of color, beauty, trauma, joy, and grief. We are shaped not by a single moment but by the layering of our experiences, each adding depth to our story. Just as no two fingerprints are alike, no two lives are the same. Each one is a masterpiece of resilience and beauty.
